Chatham Academy recEives statefarm Service learning grant
Savannah, GA (August 6, 2010) – Chatham Academy students are one of 13 groups receiving a service-learning grant from Habitat for Humanity International and State Farm®. The students were awarded the $6,700 grant to implement a project they developed with Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity.
Chatham Academy students will work with Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity to learn about their contributions to our community and develop a resource area at the new Habitat Restore located on Victory Drive.
“We are excited to receive this award,” said Carolyn Hannaford, principal at Chatham Academy. “This grant will allow our students to apply what they are learning in class to a real-world issue and to give back to their community.”
“This opportunity to partner with Chatham Academy is another way that we can bring awareness to Habitat for Humanity’s work in providing safe, decent and affordable housing in the Savannah community and foster a generation of community minded youth, “ said Virginia Brown, Executive Director of Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity.
State Farm and Habitat are offering 12 additional service-learning grants to students at schools across the country. Since 2007, State Farm has served as the national corporate sponsor of Habitat for Humanity’s youth programs, with a sponsorship commitment of more than $1.1 million each year. Additionally, State Farm offices contribute more than $500,000 annually to Habitat affiliates across the United States.
